چکیده

In the literature it is suggested that the number of protest responses can depend on the valuation method. Choice Experiments (CE) are said to generate a lower number of protest responses than Contingent Valuation (CV). In a project about forest biodiversity both CE and CV were used and protest beliefs of all respondents irrespective of their willingness to pay determined. According to our analysis no definite pattern arises that shows that CV generates more protest beliefs or protest responses. A protest scale based on the protest beliefs indicates a significant negative influence of these beliefs in both CE and CV.

Protest responses and willingness to pay: attitude toward paying for stormwater pollution abatement

In contingent valuation (CV) surveys, there is often a proportion of individuals who are not willing to pay to obtain (avoid) an increase (decrease) in some attribute of a particular environmental public good. Some of these respondents might protest an aspect of the CV survey (e.g. payment vehicle) or the behavioral intention (i.e. willingness to pay, WTP) constituting the measure of economic v...

Protest Bidders in Contingent Valuation

Protest bids are often excluded during analysis of contingent valuation method data. It is suggested that this procedure might introduce significant bias. Protest bids are often registered by respondents who may actually place a higheror lower-than-average value on the commodity in question but refuse to pay on the basis of ethical or other reasons, Exclusion of protest bids may therefore bias ...

Recreational benefits of urban forests: explaining visitors' willingness to pay in the context of the theory of planned behavior.

The extension of contingent valuation models with an attitude-behavior based framework has been proposed in order to improve the descriptive and predictive ability of the models. This study examines the potential of the theory of planned behavior to explain willingness to pay (WTP) in a contingent valuation survey of the recreational benefits of the Zurich city forests. Two aspects of WTP respo...

Increasing the Validity of Valuing Biodiversity: Reducing Protest Responses by Deliberative Monetary Valuation

This paper focuses on increasing the validity of biodiversity valuation. A group deliberation technique (Deliberative Monetary Valuation) is supplemented by a contingent valuation (CV) survey. An exceptionally large number of focus groups provided basis for applying a relatively unproven methodology and comparing the results with CV. We present evidence that our interpretation of DMV tackles so...
